Encaustic Sampler Workshop

En-caus-tic - 1. painted with wax colors fixed with heat. 2. a work of art produced by an encaustic process.

Mon-o-type - 1. a one of a kind print. 2. a print made without a repeatable matrix.

Encaustic photo

Come and explore the seductive media of Hot Wax. The Encaustic Monotype is an exciting, contemporary process with a painterly approach to printmaking. This process is experimental, freeing, and can be used successfully with a wide range of imagery and styles. Encaustic Mixed Media is fun and experimental. Encaustic paint is beautiful and durable. Made from beeswax, pigment and damar resin it offers endless possibilities for astonishing surface qualities. The layering process offers beautiful depth and transparency. The creative potential with this media are endless.

Life Drawing I & II

Mondays, September 29 - November 17, 2008

Student level: Some drawing experience, adults over eighteen

In the course Life Drawing I and II, students will practice representation of the human body using gesture, contour, and modeling. There is an artificial way to draw based on learning techniques and mannerisms. There is also a natural way to draw based on close observation of the object you are drawing. In this class, we will be focusing on the natural approach. We will focus on drawing from the live models in the studio. The purpose of this course is to help students obtain the necessary skill of drawing the human form, including anatomy, observation of the human form and fundamental exercises in gesture, contour, outline, and tonal modeling.

Cost: $400.00 ($360.00 if paid in full by first class) plus model fee

Painting Class: Beginner & Intermediate

Tuesdays, beginning October 7 (8 weeks)
9:30 - 11:30 AM

Study and apply basic painting techniques in water-based media. This is a beginning/intermediate course with emphasis on painting. This course introduces students to classical and contemporary painting, techniques and concepts, with emphasis on the understanding of its formal language and the fundamentals of artistic expression. Painting from still-life, landscape, and from observation will be geared towards realism; at the same time, various other painting styles will be explored. Color theory, linear perspective, pictorial composition, figure/ground relationships, visual perception, spatial concepts, and critical thinking skills will be introduced. Our main emphasis will be to encourage and nourish individuality and creativity.

Digital Photography I

Wednesdays, October 1 - November 5, 2008 (6 weeks)
1:00 - 3:00 PM

Student level: Novice to Some photo experience
Adults/ Children: Adult
Materials: digital/or film camera and peripherals

This course is designed to introduce and develop a sound understanding of the basic principles, materials, and processes of photography and to promote individual creativity in a studentıs search for and discovery of expressive images. They will also learn the concepts of downloading, lighting, design, composition, and content. Students will learn about Photoshop, the elements and principles of art and design, and printing techniques. They will also concentrate on presentation techniques. All students will be encouraged to discover their own individual means of producing images. All students will actively participate in critique sessions of their work and other studentıs work. There will be an additional fee per print for printing images.

Drawing Class: Beginner & Intermediate

Wednesdays, October 8 (8 weeks)

Students will experience a hands-on approach to the techniques, styles, and mediums of drawing, including the difference between looking and seeing as it relates to this valuable art form. One of our eight days will be spent in the gallery discussing and drawing some of the displayed works. The class will allow students to explore a variety of styles & techniques in a richly informative environment.
